Henshaw designed, manufactured and installed the envelope for this impressive nine storey commercial building in Glasgow’s city centre using a bespoke adaptation of the Schueco UCC65 structural silicone unitised curtain walling system and the standard FWS60+ stick curtain wall system.

The flush glazed façade has been set within black bespoke vertical and horizontal feature fins, incorporated in to the Schueco unitised curtain walling. The fins, which extend beyond the roofline to create a challenging ‘Crown’ feature detail, surrounds the entire top of the building giving the structure a distinctive standout appearance against the skyline.

Floor to ceiling glazing allows large amounts of light to flood into the spacious offices while the high performance Pilkington Suncool 70/35 coated glass ensures the solar energy transmitted into the offices is kept to a minimum. In addition to solar control, the glass needed the mechanical strength to withstand some onerous windloads and horizontal imposed barrier loads internally.

The main south elevation, overlooking Waterloo Street, introduces a cantilever to create a double height ground floor leading to a recessed entrance and reception area. The Schueco unitised product was selected due to the challenging city centre site and building footprint.

External access was not possible due to the pedestrian and vehicular traffic demands of the site surrounds.

The building provides approximately 155,000sq.ft of high quality Grade A office accommodation in the heart of Glasgow’s Central Business District and was named as Scotland’s top corporate workplace in the British Council for Offices’ (BCO) 2020 awards.
