The new learning and teaching hub provides state-of-the-art learning and teaching facilities for over 2500 students in a highly sustainable BREEAM Excellent building that sits at the heart of a conservation area in Glasgow.

The main south elevation facade is 40m long and facetted on plan. The ground floor curtain wall features 280mm deep Jansen mullions, fully sleeved with steel inserts to create an uninterrupted 9m single span. Each mullion when joined weighs over 500kg. The logistics involved with lifting, fabricating, painting and installing mullions of this scale is a key challenge.

The Levolux anodised aluminium brise soliel fins to the upper floors, penetrate the Schueco FWS60 curtain walling and are loaded to the primary structure. Careful detailing was required to ensure these penetrations were fully sealed whilst still accommodating building movements and the thermal properties of the facade.

The SG Jansen Viss curtain wall to the ground floor was also designed and engineered to provide lateral restraint for the brise soliel fins.

Henshaw are proud of the capabilities and expertise of our staff, installers and supply chain, to allow us to provide such challenging facades for our clients.
