Edinburgh Quartermile Q20-25

A residential project within the prestigious Quartermile development, Edinburgh.

The Quartermile development lies on the site of the former Victorian Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and over the last 10 years has been developed as a mix use site.

Henshaw have designed, manufactured and installed Kawneer aluminium curtain wall, windows and doors for six blocks of the residential apartments.

Along with the Kawneer elements Henshaw have also installed the Kingspan Benchmark Konnect back-up wall system, aluminium plank rainscreen cladding and Juliet balconies.

The Penthouse apartments also have structural glass balustrades, by Henshaw, to their external terraces.

Through early involvement with SRM and Fosters + Partners we were able to propose a compliant curtain wall and sliding door product and glass specification to meet the aesthetic requirements, performance criteria, solar shading and thermal issues. We were also able to propose a secondary steel solution to resolve structural issues.

The project was also logistically challenging as the site was located in a busy residential area of Edinburgh with restricted access, very limited storage space and where consideration for the residents’ health & safety and wellbeing was utmost.
