Balfour Beatty worked collaboratively with the sub contractors to redevelop Glasgow’s Queen Street station, while it remained fully operational throughout.

The redevelopment of the station formed part of the Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Programme EGIP.

Henshaw provided a complex sloping curtain wall façade which had a blast enhanced criteria.

The Schueco FW80+XR partially capped system was installed with high performance glass units.  Henshaw worked collaboratively with Patrick Mann, a 3rd party blast specialist to ensure the design of the façade was compliant with the blast mitigation standards for new public spaces.

The station redevelopment has won many awards since its completion in 2021, including:

The Chairman’s Special Award at the National Railway Heritage Awards in 2022 (NRHA).

The NRHA award followed on from two Scottish Transport Awards, for Excellence in Transport Design and Transport Project of the Year, as well as the Station Excellence Award at the Rail Business Awards.
