Henshaw completed the full design, manufacture and installation of ‘The Lumen Building’ for Sir Robert McAlpine on the Helix Business and Research Development site in Newcastle

The Project utilises Schueco FWS60 capped and FWS60+SG silicone glazed curtain wall systems together with ASS70 HI lift slide and ADS65 HD doors. Henshaw, in conjunction with Schueco, developed project specific dies so that large building movements could be accommodated, in turn allowing the superstructure of the building to be kept as light and as transparent as possible.

All visible framing and metalwork on the building is coated in a project specific Axalta pearlescent paint which was bulk produced prior to manufacture.

The double-glazed units on the building comprise of a heat strengthened laminate outer pane with Saint Gobain SKN 144ii high performance solar control coating and a monolithic toughened inner pane, all supplied through Press Glass UK.

The Henshaw package also included all feature metalwork, soffits, steel personnel doors, internal fire screens and automated door operators.

Henshaw worked closely with Ryder Architects to develop the performance specifications and complex detailing and with Sir Robert McApline to co-ordinate material programming / deliveries to what is a very tight city centre site with restricted storage areas.
